Memontage is a digital commemoration platform where you can upload memories of a loved one who has passed away. You can upload a photo that always makes you laugh, a link to a song they sang off key or a recipe of a cake that smells like home. The result is a dynamic memory montage (‘Memontage’) where people can upload more and more memories, share them with family and friends and celebrate the life of the deceased. In addition, users can find comfort in others who created Memontages for their loved ones and connect with them or visit their memories and stories for inspiration and empowerment.
The Challenge
How do you design for grief in a way that respects the loved ones but does not aim to elicit sadness. It’s a nostalgic platform that lets you to tell the story of your connection. I chose to use a black-white-green color palette:
– Black and white as a symbol of the past depicted with each image that pops up as part of the montage.
– Green as a symbol of the continuation of life and remembering the legacy in order to keep it alive.
Old photo albums were my inspiration. This concept mixed with responsive web design basics helped us create a unique, highly user-friendly platform that adjusts for the user’s sensitive mental state.
